Why this book exists
A focused place to understand what is happening
Marit has been a community nurse in Cardiff for nineteen years and she came to coaching to find out what was wrong with her. She described it precisely, because she is a precise woman. She feels nothing when she should feel something: a patient she visited for two years died in March, and she stood at the funeral like a person watching a film about a funeral. And at the same time she is overwhelmed by things that do not warrant it: a colleague mentioned a case in a corridor, nothing unusual, and Marit had to sit in her car for twenty minutes. Something about a child's name. Nothing when there should be something. Everything when there should be nothing. She knows the phrase. There is a leaflet in the staff room. And the phrase permits exactly one.
The writing is designed to reduce shame, bring the underlying pattern into view and give you practical ways to respond without pretending that every life follows the same formula.
