Why this book exists
A focused place to understand what is happening
He checked his phone somewhere north of two hundred times yesterday, and I want to start with the only part that matters, which everybody skips. He did not enjoy any of them. Not one. Not the first thing in the morning, not the seventeenth at his desk, not the one at the traffic lights, not the one at eleven at night lying in the dark with the thing four inches from his face. There was no pleasure in any of it. If you had stopped him at any point and asked whether he was having a nice time, he would have looked at you as though you were unwell. Now hold that against everything you have been told about this.
The writing is designed to reduce shame, bring the underlying pattern into view and give you practical ways to respond without pretending that every life follows the same formula.
