Why this book exists
A focused place to understand what is happening
There is a finding in personality psychology that took twenty years to make sense of, and it explains why you are the way you are. Researchers built a scale in 1975 measuring how much a person attends to their own inner states. Then they correlated it with everything, and two results kept coming back that should not both be true. People who look inward most have more accurate and more extensive self-knowledge. Exactly what the theory predicts. And people who look inward most have higher levels of distress. More anxiety. More depression.
The writing is designed to reduce shame, bring the underlying pattern into view and give you practical ways to respond without pretending that every life follows the same formula.
